Distance

Distance

Sleeplessness engulfs me.I don't want to look at the lonely bed.I don't want to lie there.
The sheets are cold.
This darkness: unwelcoming
This silence: deafening

The room is empty.
My mind is full.
I need you here.

Turn it Off

Cell

This contraption is my torture device.
Pick it up and set it down.
Keep wishing for something more than the picture I took when we were together.
When we were happy.

Your voice is in my reach
but
It's something I won't soon hear.

Pick it up.
Set it down.

You're only a button away.
But what would I say?
Each time I try, the words just get in the way.
I'd try to tell you.
You'd just say that you understand,
but,
"This will be best for us both in the end."
We'd say our goodbyes for yet another time.

Pick it up.

Yes.

As I suspected.
Nothing.

Put it down
and keep waiting.

The Finding

The Finding

There is a rhythm to our lives.
A beat.
A pulse of our true selfs

Daily we seek to find synchronicity;
A connection
Between us and life.
A connection
Of one soul to another.

Where we find this beat
Varies.

Art.
Music.
Dance.
Poetry.
An infinite list
Of possibilities.

This search is unbeknown to us.
We wait for the words to catch us;
For the Music to move us.

When we find something,
That really means something
We hold on to it and
Sometimes,
We find ourselves living
To the rhythm
of a new mantra.

Something we can call our own
.

Limitations

Limitations

Sometimes I feel caged
Within my own skin
Trapped under this weight
Of skin and bone.

The limitations of this vessel prison
create the image of me that stands before you.
But I am not who I appear to be
This person you call me,
Is not me.
The "me" that I know lies deep
Within these folds of skin

These hands do not define me.
They don't tell you who I am,
Merely, where this vessel has traveled.

These eyes are not what define my soul.
They are only reflections of what you want me to be.

I am so much more.
I could be so much more.
Without these limitations.

If I could only break out of this institution
That has straight-jacketed
My truth
My being
My ability
My "me"

Only then would I be free.

The Arrival of Spring

The Arrival of Spring

That which I thought would remain
cold sharp nothingness
is melting.

As you whisper in my ear
the warm breath of life flows through my body;
like the river that's been damned since the beginning of time,
It surges back to life

Flowing into the deepest parts of my heart
That I never knew existed.
Filling the hollow spaces
Of the dead life I once lived.

I live.
In my body.
In your touch;
The creation of your warmth.

All of You

All of You

Your Eyes:
Stars of the most beautiful kind
Drops of silvery-blue sapphire
Suspended in the darkest heavens of my life.

Your Lips:
Sweep across my skin
Like two soft, pink rose petals
Floating in the wind.
Circling and stopping. Circling and stopping.

Your Body:
An ocean.
And I,
the ship caught in your storm.
Twisting/turning
Your waves crash over me
Pulling me in
Deeper and deeper
Until,
I drown.

Little Miss Strawberry

Little Miss Strawberry

Little Miss Strawberry,
Where you running to again?
Running through the felt dark night
Running through the streets of your life.

Do you even know who it is you're running from?
Did you forget who you are, Little Miss Strawberry?

Perfect hair with that perfectly matching smile
You swept them away.
Yeah, you swept them away to places where they'd never find you

There you go again,
Hiding yourself away
Tucking yourself into the blankets of the night.

Tell me Little Miss Strawberry,
What are you so afraid they'll find?
Why you keep wearing that mask?
Is it to hide those tears you keep crying Little Miss Strawberry?

Just keep on running
Keep on hiding
Keep on sweeping them away
'Cause maybe someday when you're running
Those demons you've been hiding
Yeah, those demons you've been keeping inside
They are gonna fall away

Then maybe Little Miss Strawberry,
Just maybe
You'll find your reason
To let someone else wipe away those tears.
